BIOGRAPHY: KEVIN NEIL BERNARD
As a singer/songwriter, Kevin has been shaping his sound since the 70’s, when he bought his first LP in a music store in Mexico City (Elton John’s Greatest Hits). Somewhere between that album and The Who’s My Generation he developed his own voice. As a child Kevin was an accomplished concert pianist, and he recorded and performed with bands (see photos above) in Texas. In NYC he’s played Acme, C Note, Dillon’s, CBGB’s and CBGB’s Gallery with solo set-ups to full funk rhythm with horns. He has also sung and written for many of the Carols for a Cure CDs produced for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. In the late 1990's he self-produced the album Hepnosis, and then put his energies into playing live in NYC and beyond. These days he has returned to a more hermetic musical life, composing the rock opera Private Eddie. It is the story of an American Soldier in WWII -- Eddie -- who was the only American to be officially shot for desertion since the Civil War. The story focuses on the relationship between Eddie and his wife and how they challenged the definitions of cowardice and heroism in the face of war. Kevin has also produced a concert version of Private Eddie. He is now seeking investment for a full theatrical production of the opera: a unique, funk/rock performance event.
